Product Description

A later addition in the Herman Miller Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman series saw this superb, original, black leather on gorgeous natural walnut set be crafted. After rosewood was banned, Herman Miller sought alternative wood choices for the iconic design and chose cherry and walnut as closest alternatives to rosewood.

This tenacity to ensure the design lived on has been kept even until today. With the addition of more wood choices and now with 2 fabrics too, the classic lounge chair set has managed to keep with the times and, as a result, keep being a popular choice for us to luxuriously relax in after a hard day’s work.

Individual Characteristics

This is an early example of the wonderful walnut Herman Miller have continued to offer. The difference with this version, however, is that is the ‘natural’ version which means it has not been stained as deeply as the ‘standard’ walnut we usually see. This wood has endured a little bit of hardship as is shown by some markings in the wood, but has been, at some point in its life, lovingly and professionally revitalised in a way to not compromise the originality of the set. Further images are available upon request.

The leather too has clear signs of its 30+ years of use, but it is less obvious. The foam has reached that ‘well-worn’ in point, being very supple and there are no rips or tears in it.

The black label on the underside of the chair set indicates that they were produced by Herman Miller in the 1990s and there is a date label underneath that confirms they were produced in 1994.

Investment Value

There is no denying that, if you are looking for a famous design piece, the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman are perhaps one of the most recognisable design pieces from the mid-century era. This fame understandably makes them very popular pieces, and, in pretty much all guises, they are good investment pieces to own as a result. This, however, being a great early walnut examples coupled with it being natural walnut will help to give this set a little bit more prowess when it comes to an investment piece.
