This gorgeous, vintage, original light ochre Eames side shell for Herman Miller on a newer, used DSW base really is a great version of the iconic shell chair. The distinctive colour has not aged to its own distinct patina and sat on the walnut dowel this chair works perfectly as a living or dining chair.

The shells were initially produced in 4 colours but with their success, more colours were made available. Dark ochre, especially like this excellent example, was introduced and proved to also be a success. Once Herman Miller took complete control of the production process, more colours were made available thus helping to establish the success the Eames shell chairs saw.

Individual Characteristics

The shell is in a used, aged, condition and displays a couple of dents to the back of the shell - further pictures are available upon request - and there is some minor fading to the seat which is to be expected with being nearly 50 years old. The price reflects its condition.

The ‘C’ with the five star logo indicates this shell was produced in Herman Miller’s Cincinnati Milacron factory.

Investment Details

Eames shells vary in terms of investment value due to so many factors. The age, origin and colour of the shell coupled with its condition are key aspects along with the originality of the base the shell is upon. This particular shell does display its age, but as a good introduction to the fiberglass series, this Ochre will prove to be a reliable workhorse.
