This is an original, vintage, orange Eames side shell chair for Herman Miller which looks amazing on its used, newer DSW dowel base finished in light maple wood. The unique nature of the orange shells offered by Herman Miller meant they would age in their own way creating a truly wonderful version of this chair!

The myriad array of colours the Eames fiberglass shell series was offered in helped propel them in finding their fame. The versatility of the chairs was seen not only in their interchangeable bases but also in the way their colour palate meant they worked in either home or professional spaces seamlessly.

Individual Characteristics

The shell is in a very used condition and does display a large chip out of it as shown in the images provided. The colour has managed to remain strong and it does display the wonderful fiberglass webbing in it.

The shell displays the large H with Herman Miller's name underneath it signifying it was produced at some point from 1959; however, with the addition of the flame logo on the underneath, this confirms the shell's production period as being within 1959 and 1960.

Eames Shell Chairs vary from 1 to 5 stars for investment. The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the colour, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. With the condition of this shell being more aged than many others, it will prove to be a good entry level piece only.
