An excellent vintage, original Eames Herman Miller side shell chair looks fantastic in rather rare raw umber coupled with its walnut, new, used DSW dowel base. Raw umber side shells are a highly coveted colour for the Eames shell chairs and this version is in excellent vintage condition.
The Eames shells require little introduction with prototypes beginning in the 1940s, production began in 1950. Arm shells were the first to be produced and the side shells were introduced in 1952/1953. Raw umber was a later colour offered in the Eames shell series but has proven to be a very sought-after colour amongst collectors’.
Individual Characteristics
As a highly coveted colour, this shell is a fantastic example to own. The chair does show some natural signs of wear but is in great vintage condition.
The ‘C’ with star indicates this shell originates from Herman Miller’s Cincinnati factory.

Eames shells are a highly collectable piece. Of course, as with anything, their age and condition are the primary factors influencing the investment value of them and this is coupled with the colour and originality of the chair. As an excellent example of a raw umber side chair, this is a good investment piece.
