Cardboard Vitra Original Vintage Gehry ‘Easy Edges’ Glass Topped Desk
A highly iconic design, part of the ‘Easy Edges’ collection designed by Gehry, this original Vitra glass topped desk is a quirky alternative for your work needs! Perhaps the biggest statement piece of the collection, it doubles up as a table too, it cleverly uses corrugated cardboard, making the desk light and airy.
The revolutionary style Gehry brought to the mid-century design era was relatively short-lived, but it produced a wide range of interesting pieces from chairs and stools to chaises and tables. This ‘outside the box’ way of thinking helped propel him into the furniture design world and many of its pieces are still highly sought after today due to their unique style and construction material.
The desk has been used for what it is and so does show signs of its use. The legs have seen some small amount of reconditioning work being done along with wooden supports attached to strengthen them which has resulted in the desk sitting slightly lower than usual, but the cardboard is still strong and sturdy.
The glass top is relatively scratch and mark free with only small signs of use present upon it.
The table measures: 200cm long x 90 x wide x 72.5cm high.
The ‘Easy Edges’ collection was such an inspirational design series the pieces created their own investment popularity as soon as they released. Much like many of the mid-century design pieces, the age, condition and originality all have an impact on the investment value of the piece. This desk has seen some constant use and minor reconditioning and so its investment value is not as great as an untouched example but it will still be a great piece to own!
