This is a used vintage, original Elephant Grey Eames for Herman Miller fiberglass dining side shell sat gracefully on a used, walnut DSW base, the perfect chair. As one of the original colours, this elephant grey is a very versatile and popular choice, a wonderful piece which will suit a modernised house.

The Eames shell series chairs really don’t need any introduction. With early prototypes beginning in the late 1940's, production began on the Eames' dream of 'chairs for the masses' in 1950 with the arm and then the sides later in 1952/53. The original and vintage fiberglass chairs were so versatile and so modern that they only increase in popularity as the years go by.

Fiberglass originals always have a base colour and gorgeous 'visible' fibers in the shell itself. Upholstered versions were introduced by Herman Miller a little later using fabrics and textiles designed by the esteemed designer Alexander Girard.

Individual Characteristics

Due to its vintage qualities, there are some scratches on the surface, and may have some discolouration on the shell consistent with its age and usage - further images are available upon request. Despite the marks, the chair remains in good condition, which should still be a very good investment. 

The base is used and is still in good condition.

The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the colour, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. This grey colour is still considered as highly desirable, especially as the chair is still in a good and sturdy condition, therefore making this chair a superb investment.
