Dark Green Herman Miller Original Eames Upholstered RAR Rocking Chair
A vintage Herman Miller Eames arm shell chair with stunning medium green Alexander Girard designed vinyl upholstery and a new walnut RAR base is a great blend. The vinyl finish is easy to clean whilst looking stunning with its shade of subtle dark green and on the rocking base makes it a coveted lounge piece.
The Eames shells require little introduction with prototypes beginning in the 1940s, production began in 1950. Arm shells were the first to be produced and the side shells were introduced in 1952/1953.
Alexander Girard was commissioned to help design a wide variety of upholstery finishes for both the side and arm shells, providing an alternative to the standard fiberglass shells and expanding the buying options for these chairs.
The arm shell is in a good vintage condition; the shell displays no cracks whilst the vinyl is in a good aged condition but there may be some slight lifting around the edging and may require a bit of a clean; further pictures are available. PLEASE NOTE, THE GREEN IS DARKER THAN IN THE PICTURES - PLEASE SEE THE IMAGE SHOWING THE COLOUR OF IT. The white edging is also in a similar aged condition with some light marking - as is expected on these pieces - which may also benefit from a good clean.
The ‘S’ within the circle symbol on the shell indicates this shell was produced in Herman Miller’s Summit Plastics factory.
The Eames shells are a great investment piece, but many factors affect how valuable they are. The origin of the shell, its age and even the colour can have an effect on its value. The colour combination between upholstery and shell on this particular chair aids with its investment value.
