Lemon Yellow 1st Generation Zenith Vintage Original Eames DAX Arm Shell Chair
An extremely rare find. A fantastic example of an amazing vintage 1st Generation Zenith Eames arm shell in lemon yellow colour and on an original black DAX base. The chair has managed to retain a good colour considering its age. This is a great example of an all original 1st generation design icon.
The earliest shells from Zenith were, in some ways, the experimental phase in the shells’ production. The first generation rope-edged shells were only around for a couple of years before the mould was changed. After this, a multitude of embossed logos, labels and different sized shock mounts found their way under the shells until they found a standard format which was used by Summit Prime and Cincinnati Plastics.
The shell has aged well, its colour has faded a little and there may be some slight shock mount bleeding, but it is otherwise a good example of a lightly aged 1st generation Eames arm shell. Further pictures are available and advised before purchase.
The original black DAX base displays a natural patina expected with age but is as sturdy as the day it was produced.
The rope edging and checkerboard label help indicates this is a first generation Zenith arm shell.
The Eames’s shell chairs have become highly coveted pieces. Their popularity has helped ensure their continued production today. As with many things, their investment value is determined by many numerous factors, but the main ones are age, condition, originality and colour. As a great example of this vintage classic, it will prove to be a good investment piece.
