A much coveted original Eames for Herman Miller lemon yellow fiberglass side shell chair is always popular since they work effortlessly with any interior décor. This particular top is invigorated by the stark black stained oak, used newer, DSW base it is sat upon which really brings the yellow out in all its glory!

The side variant of the iconic shell chairs was the second version to be produced and was done so in 1952/53. One of the original colour choices for the shells, yellow is perhaps slightly more common than the elephant grey and seafoam colours but this does not inhibit its popularity.

Individual Characteristics

This particular shell’s colour has mellowed over time but is a consistent finish. The highly fibrous finish is wonderful and more noticeable when seen closely and there are no cracks or dents, just the expected wear and gentle scuff marks expected around the edging.

The ‘C’ with the five pointed star on the underside indicates this is a Cincinnati Plastics shell produced by Herman Miller between 1965 and 1978.

The Eames shells range in their investment value depending upon many factors. The condition, age, colour and even origin of the shell can affect the price of each shell. As this is one of the original colours its investment value is more reasonable than some shells and it should see a steady increase over time.
