Red Pair (2) Herman Miller Original Vintage Eames DSW Side Shell Chairs

We have 1 in stock.

Product Description

These are used, original Red Herman Miller Eames DSW dining chairs, with newer, used walnut DSW dowel bases. The shell is of a lighter red than the one pictured. Nevertheless, they will certainly brighten up your dining room, and equally look fantastic with a mixture of other fibreglass colours!

The Eames shell series chairs really do not need any introduction. With early prototypes beginning in the late 1940's, production began on the Eames' dream of 'chairs for the masses' in 1950 with the arm and then the sides later in 1952/53. The original and vintage fiberglass chairs were so versatile and so modern that they only increase in popularity as the years go by.

Herman Miller faithfully reintroduced the fiberglass version of the iconic Eames shell chair to re-capture the original style the vintage variants display. The wonderfully textured fibers help define the colour whilst giving the shells a sense of depth in their design.

Individual characteristics

This red original DSW chair has a new, walnut dowel base so the chair has is very sturdy and supportive. The red shell is vibrant in colour, with very nice fibrous details, with no major scratches or marks, there are signs of some slight fading and age related marks. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ACTUAL CHAIRS ARE SLIGHTLY LIGHTER AND MORE FADED THAN THE ONES PICTURED - Further images are available upon request.

The 'S' summit stamp indicates that the chair was manufactured around the 1960s.

Investment value

Eames Shell Chairs vary from 1 to 5 stars for investment. The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the color, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. Red is a very desirable colour, a staple dining chair that will be worth the investment.
