Raw Umber Pair (2) Herman Miller Vintage Original Eames DSW Side Shell Chairs
A pair of vintage, original Eames side shell chairs for Herman Miller look fantastic in rather rare raw umber coupled with their used, walnut, DSW dowel bases. Raw umber side shells are a highly coveted colour for the Eames shell chairs and these versions are in excellent vintage condition.
The Eames shells require little introduction with prototypes beginning in the 1940s, production began in 1950. Arm shells were the first to be produced and the side shells were introduced in 1952/1953. Raw umber was a later colour offered in the Eames shell series but has proven to be a very sought-after colour amongst collectors’.
As a highly coveted colour, these shells are fantastic examples to own. The chairs do show some natural signs of wear which may be a little more than similar shells of their era with them displaying some deeper scuffs in some areas, price does reflect this and further pictures are available upon request
The ‘C’ with star indicates these shells originate from Herman Miller’s Cincinnati factory.
Eames shells are a highly collectable piece. Of course, as with anything, their age and condition are the primary factors influencing the investment value of them and this is coupled with the colour and originality of the chair. As an excellent examples of some raw umber side chairs, these are good investment pieces.
