Seafoam Herman Miller Vintage Original Eames DSW Side Shell Chair
Product Description
An original, vintage Herman Miller Eames Seafoam Side Shell on a beautiful used, newer, walnut DSW dowel base, making a very popular combination for this chair. One of the original colours Charles and Ray used when producing these chairs, this style of chair needs little introduction and it is easy to see why!
Original fiberglass shells are defined by their base colour which shows the vibrant fibers contained within the shell. This version of the Seafoam chair displays this perfectly. Herman Miller, with the design power of Alexander Girard, later introduced upholstered versions of the shells which were finished in either Girard’s own patterned fabrics or in vinyl.
Individual Characteristics
Of course, 50+ year old shell tops have seen a lot in their time, but this example is in great condition considering this. There are signs of general use around the shell’s side, but that aids with the shells history. There are no cracks and the main body of the shell is in very good condition. The shell may be a little different to the actual shell in its shade so please ask for further pictures.
The logo on the underside of the shell indicates this was produced between 1959-1960 as, not only does it have the Herman Miller logo, it has the more elusive flame logo too!
Investment Details
Eames Side Shells are great investment pieces, but how much of an investment pieces relies upon multiple factors; the age of the shell, the rarity of the colour, the manufacturer, the originality of the base and, of course, the condition of the shell. With this piece being a very good condition of the Seafoam version, its investment value is reasonable.
