White Plastic Herman Miller Original Eames Moulded Plastic DSR
An example of the continuing evolution of this iconic design. This original Eames shell chair design has been updated by Herman Miller producing it in plastic. The DSR is as iconic as they come, but with the shift to plastic, the design saw more of a modern update and is now offered alongside the traditional fiberglass.
Whilst using an original design, the movement to plastic originates from the late 90s when the shells were re-introduced by Herman Miller but they moved away from the traditional fiberglass reinforced plastic to solid polypropylene plastic instead. Perhaps a contentious point to purists and enthusiasts, the plastic shell has remained a popular choice since its introduction.
The shell is in good used condition. There are some natural marks around the edging, expected with being used, but the plastic shell is in good condition with no cracks or dents.
The original DSR base is a used example and its condition shows this. It is still strong and sturdy but may show signs of age related marks on it.
The embossed logo on the underside of the shell indicates it is a Herman Miller produced shell.
The investment value of the shell chair series depends upon many factors such as the age of the shell, the age of the base, the rarity of the shell colour, the factory of origin and, of course, the condition. As a newer variant of the iconic shell produced in plastic, its investment value is not rated highly, but it will prove to be a very sturdy and reliable chair.
