Yellow Herman Miller Original Eames DSW Side Shell Chair

Product Description

A bright yellow original Eames fiberglass side shell chair for Herman Miller on a used, newer light golden oak DSW dowel base make a desirable combination. The striking yellow shell has a wonderful deep colour with fantastic clearly seen visible fibers which are enhanced by the rich colour of the dowel base.

The Eames shell series chairs really do not need any introduction. With early prototypes beginning in the late 1940's, production began on the Eames' dream of 'chairs for the masses' in 1950 with the arm and then the sides later in 1952/53. The original and vintage fiberglass chairs were so versatile and so modern that they only increase in popularity as the years go by. 

Fiberglass originals always have a base colour and gorgeous 'visible' fibers in the shell itself. Upholstered version were introduced by Herman Miller a little later on using fabrics and textiles designed by the esteemed designer Alexander Girard.

Individual Characteristics

A used vintage version of the shell chair, the condition is very good for their age. The colour is slightly darker than is displayed in the images, but they have a very wonderful consistency to them.

The ‘S’ within the circle logo dictates the shell was made at Herman Miller’s Summit Plastics factory.

Investment Details

Eames Shell Chairs vary from 1 to 5 stars for investment. The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the colour, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. Bright yellow is a slightly rarer colour to find for these iconic shells it is in very good vintage condition which means it should be a reasonable investment piece and it should prove to be great conversation starter!
