Light Seafoam Herman Miller Vintage Eames DSW Dining Side Shell Chair

A highly desirable colour; this vintage, lovely light seafoam Eames Herman Miller original side shell chair sits on its used, newer, walnut DSW dowel base. A softer finish to the traditional Seafoam colour, this gentle colour works in any interior style and perfectly represents just how versatile this iconic chair is!

A colour that was initially used as a contract colour only – minimum orders of 150 chairs – this version of the coveted seafoam colour soon became commercially available at the same time and outlasting the more well known, deeper, colour that was one of the first six colours made available when the shell chair was first introduced. 

Individual Characteristics

There are clear signs of general use around the shells side with the faded colour however that aids with its history. There are signs of dirt that has been ingrained into the fiberglass so a professional clean is advised. 

Please note, the shell is in the wide mount position as opposed to the narrow mount as shown in the images.

The shell is adorned with the ‘C’ with the 5-pointed star logo on the underside which indicates this was produced in Herman Miller’s Cincinnati Milicron factory between 1965 and 1978.

Investment Details

Eames Side Shells are great investment pieces, but how much of an investment pieces relies upon multiple factors; the age of the shell, the rarity of the colour, the manufacturer, the originality of the base and, of course, the condition of the shell. With this piece being a good condition example of the Seafoam version, its investment value is reasonable.
