An exceptionally rare Lime Green Eames shell

An original vintage Herman Miller Eames DSW side shell chair in Lime Green, the rarest Eames shell colour in our experience, with very few examples known to us on the secondary market. For collectors seeking something beyond the familiar production colours, this is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a seldom-seen shell.

The shell retains a beautifully rich, consistent depth of colour, set against the darker tones of a newer, previously used walnut DSW dowel base. The combination gives this classic Eames design a striking presence, whether displayed as a collector’s piece or placed within a carefully considered interior.

A scarce special-order colour

Special colours were available through minimum orders of 150 chairs, typically commissioned by businesses furnishing offices or other spaces. Lime Green was produced in a limited run, making surviving examples particularly difficult to find. Its scarcity on the secondary market is central to this chair’s appeal.

Condition and individual characteristics

This shell is in excellent vintage condition, with little visible evidence of its age. The colour remains particularly well preserved throughout, and the edges are also in excellent vintage condition.

The underside bears a ‘C’ with a five-pointed star, a production marking dating the shell to 1965–1978.

The walnut DSW dowel base is a newer, used addition, rather than a base original to the shell’s period of manufacture.
