Navy Blue Herman Miller Original Vintage Eames DSW Side Shell Chair
Product Description
A gorgeous deep navy blue, highly fibrous, original, vintage Eames fiberglass side shell chair for Herman Miller looks amazing on its used light oak DSW base. The rich colour of this shell has stood the test of time well and is an excellent example of the beautiful colours the shell chairs were made available in.
The fantastic range of colours the Eames shells were offered in helped see their popularity increase rapidly and it is easy to see why with such beautiful depths of colour achieved. This blue chair is an excellent example of how well the dying process can stand up to the test of time when looked after. There are signs of age, as one would expect for a 70 year old chair, but the colour has retained an excellent amount of pigmentation.
Individual Characteristics
The shell may show some signs of use in the form of light surface scratching which may range from being present on the surface of the shell, to the backrest and to the edges, but this is no more to expect than from a chair that has seen a long life. The colour is wonderful and the newer, used, dowel base is in a great condition.
The ‘C’ with the 3 pointed star inside indicates the shell was made at the Herman Miller’s Cincinnati Milicron factory between 1958 and 1965.
Investment Details
Eames Shell Chairs vary from 1 to 5 stars for investment. The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the colour, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. The vibrant colour of this particular top should help to see it be a reasonable investment piece.
