Orange Herman Miller Original Eames Upholstered DSR Side Shell Chair
Product Description
A vintage edition of a Herman Miller produced, Eames black side shell chair is emboldened by its Alexander Girard designed orange vinyl and black DSR base. The vinyl finish is easy to clean whilst looking stunning with its deep orange complimenting the black of the shell and the black of the newer, used DSR base.
The Eames shells require little introduction with prototypes beginning in the late 1940s, production began in 1950. Arm shells were the first to be produced and the side shells were introduced in 1952/1953. Alexander Girard was commissioned to help design a wide variety of upholstery finishes for both the side and arm shells, providing an alternative to the standard fiberglass shells and expanding the buying options for these chairs.
Individual Characteristics
The side shell is in an aged condition with some slight tears and marks in the vinyl. The fiberglass shell does not display any cracks or dents.
The ‘S’ stamp signifies the shell originates from Herman Miller’s Summit Plastics factory.
Investment Details
The Eames shells are a great investment piece, but many factors affect how valuable they are. The origin of the shell, its age and even the colour can have an effect on its value. This is an aged chair which does mar its investment value a little, but as an introduction into the Eames collection, it will still prove to be stylish and reliable.
