Tan Herman Miller Original Eames DSW Dining Side Shell Chair
Product Description
A wonderfully desirable colour; this exceptional, original light tan Eames Herman Miller dining side chair on its used light oak DSW dowel base looks stunning. An interesting colour, to the discerning eye it is easy to see how it can work in anywhere from a professional to a home setting with its neutral charm.
The success of the Eames Shell Chair was largely helped by the wide range of colours they were made available in. This explosion of colour began in the late 50s, but really took stride through the 60s with the assistance of the upholstered versions offered with the assistance of the Eames’s good friend, Alexander Girard.
Individual Characteristics
As a vintage shell this is in good condition. The deep colour is still strong and the strong fibrous finish is excellent. There are some light age related marks to the shell with some gentle scuffs around the edges but no more than would be expected for its age.
The ‘C’ with the 5 pointed star inside indicates this shell was produced by Herman Miller in their Cincinnati Milacron plant between the years 1965-1978. Interestingly, this shell also retains a sticker displaying where it was distributed, placing it as being sold initially within Canada.
Investment Details
Eames Shell Chairs vary from 1 to 5 stars for investment. The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the colour, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. As an excellent example of an original shell with a very nice, interesting colour, this chair should prove to be a good investment piece.
